The word Julisha is a Swahili word that means ‘to inform’ or the act of ‘passing information’. The second part of the name is drawn from the word ‘information’ and hence the combination Julisha.Info.

Julisha.Info is an initiative fully dedicated to helping refugees, asylum seeker and their host communities in Kakuma, Dadaab and those in Nairobi and its surrounding urban settlement areas.

At the heart of Julisha.Info there is a team of highly qualified women and men working in Nairobi, Dadaab and Kakuma to source for information and make it available to the community in English, Somali, Swahili and Arabic through WhatsApp, Facebook page and the website.

Julisha.info is a project managed by the International Rescue Committee, an international humanitarian organization working in 40 countries to provide support to refugees and displaced people.

In a December 2021 survey involving 950 individuals to assess whether the information they received on Julisha.Info was useful, 84.76% of individuals said they found the information shared on Julisha.Info channels useful. Some participants (1.83%) reported that the information they received from Julisha.Info was not useful to them.

What kind of assistance does Julisha.Info provide?

There are many stakeholders including the government of Kenya through the Refugee Affairs Secretariat (RAS) providing services, material support, and opportunities such as jobs, scholarships and legal aid to refugees and asylum seekers in Kenya. While most of these services are largely accessible free of charge, it is challenging to access information on where and how the services and assistance is provided.

Julisha.Info exists to provide responsive, timely and accurate information on COVID-19, assistance, and services for refugees, asylum seekers and their hosts in Kenya.
